The BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday accused the government of trying to make his party ineffective by filing false cases. He called on the government not to harass the party’s Senior Joint Secretary-General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi when he will go to court to surrender.
“The government is filing fabricated cases against the BNP leaders to make the party ineffective,” he said it at a press conference in the party’s Naya Paltan office.
Mirza Fakhrul said, a warrant of arrest has been issued against Rizvi just to keep him behind the bars, because he is doing the function of the party’s spokesman.
He said, Rizvi’s name was not in the first information report, but it has been included in the charge sheet afterwards.
A Dhaka court on July 25 issued an arrest warrant against nine BNP leaders, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in an explosive substances case filed with Pallabi police station.
When asked about Rizvi’s whereabouts, he said Rizvi is avoiding arrest. “The ruling Awami League has no politics now, except harassing the opposition parties, the BNP in particular,” he said.
Senior leader Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdullah Al Noman, Selima Rahman and Khairul Kabir Khokon among others, were present on the occasion.
