Govt urged to sever ties with Pakistan

The Political Science Association on Monday urged the government to sever ties with Pakistan unless Islamabad seeks unconditional apology for the crimes it committed during the War of Liberation in 1971.
In a statement, the association said Pakistan has showed audacious reaction over the executions of two major 1971 war crimes convicts last month by denying the genocide it carried out during the Liberation War.
“So, the association demands cutting Bangladesh’s all diplomatic and economic relations with Pakistan if Islamabad does not seek unconditional apology for the crimes it committed during the War of Liberation in 1971,” the statement said.
The association also demands compensation from Pakistan through the United Nations for the damage it (Pakistan) caused during the war.
It said the association is expressing deep anguish for Pakistan’s interference in Bangladesh’s internal affair by opposing the trial of those accused of crimes against humanity.
The statement said different political and government spokespersons of Pakistan are continuing to show audacious behavior by making statements full of falsehood one after another. The association, it said, condemns such hateful, audacious and barbaric attitude of Pakistan.
The association said Pakistan used the 1974 agreement as a plea not to hold the trial of war criminals. Rather when the Bangali nation is firm to complete the trial of war criminals, Pakistan dares to interfere in Bangladesh’s internal matter which is a violation of diplomatic norms.
The association’s demand came amid mounting angers over Islamabad’s reaction after the war crimes convicts BNP stalwart Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed were executed for committing crimes against humanity siding with the Pakistani troops in 1971.
