State Minister for Women and Children affairs Begum Meher Afroz said the present government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has undertaken various steps for the development of women.
Replying to a question in the House raised by Awami League (AL) lawmaker Selim Uddinon Sunday, she said the government has undertaken different projects for further empowerment of the women through training and other promotional activities across the country. The projects include physical facilities in five divisional cities, training programme in women training center (WTC) at district level, food and livelihood security, women hostel cum training center in Nalitabari upazila, advancement and promotion of women rights, women hostel for garments workers in Ashulia, Savar and Dhaka, computer training for women at district level, multi-sectoral programme to prevent repression on women and formulation of national action plan (NPA) to implement national women development policy.
On another question, the state minister said the government has established ‘One Stop Crisis Center Cell’ at 40 district level hospitals and 20 upazila health complexes to serve the repressed women and children.
“We have also established a help-line center (No-10921) to give services to the women,” Meher Afroz said adding that the government also made eight victim support centers under the Ministry of Home affairs.
On another question raised by ruling party lawmaker Md Shorab Uddin, the state minister said the government has taken a project titled “Computer Training Project for Women at the district level (64- district) at a cost of Taka 5253.51 lakh to be implemented from July 2013 to June 2016. The government has also taken a plan to give computer training to 10,000 women in phases, she added.
