UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday alleged that the government is trying to remove Chief Justice SK Sinha using article 97 of the Constitution.
“Awami League leaders are dissatisfied with the judiciary. They want to create excuses to remove the CJ through the President and appoint an acting Chief Justice as per their choice,” said Rizvi.
The BNP leader came up with this remark at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office
in the city on Sunday noon.
“There is no instance in the world of using this rule. It’s a blueprint of the government to capture the judiciary,” he said.
According the article 97 of the constitution, if the President is satisfied that the Chief Justice is, on account of absence, illness, or any other cause, unable to perform the functions of his office then the President shall appoint a new Chief Justice.
Rizvi also urged Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader to ask his party leaders to stop spreading vengeance to create a normal environment for politics.
