Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Saturday said, the government is trying to bring more remittance by way of reducing fees.
 “Expatriates send remittance of large amount with high cost. We have to reduce remittance fee from next month. So, we hope that the flow of remittance will be increased,” the Minister said.
The Finance Minister said it after inaugurating the newly constructed fountain in Naiyorpul area of the Sylhet city in the morning.
The City Corporation constructed the fountain.
The Minister said, increased number of Bangladeshi expatriates are settled abroad, which is the main reason of fall of remittance.
According to a report prepared by Bangladesh Bank, the remittance inflow into Bangladesh was lowest in last six years.
The remittance fell by 14.46 percent than the last year.
In replying to a question from journalists, the Minister said, “Nowadays almost every country is facing money laundering problem. But the rate of money laundering is very excessive in our country.”
Replying another question about Bangladeshis increased deposits in Swiss Bank, Muhith said volume of black money is increasing in the country, but the price of land is decreasing. That is the reason of deposits in Swiss Bank.
The city Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, former permanent representative in UN to Bangladesh Dr. Abdul Momen and Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet district Md. Rahat Anwar, among others, were present.
