The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Tuesday approved five power sector projects, including a mega one, to provide power connections to some 15 lakh clients through the expansion of rural electrification with an estimated cost of Tk 6,915.41 crore.
The approval was given at the 23rd Ecnec meeting of the current fiscal year held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area with Ecnec Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing the reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said a total of 16 projects were approved today involving Tk 16,887.81 crore. “Of the total project cost, Tk 14,041.27 crore will come from the national exchequer, Tk 596.27 crore from the organisation’s own fund while Tk 2,250.27 crore as project assistance.”
Of the approved 16 projects, 14 projects are new while two are revised projects.
