The government on Wednesday approved a proposal to purchase a Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor for the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) through Direct Purchase Method (DPM) for the sake of national security.
The approval came from the 12th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs held at the Cabinet Division with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Kamal said such Vehicle Mounted Data Interceptor is very important for national security and the purchase would cost around Taka 200 crore.
He said as there is a possibility of breaching the secrecy, the government is going for the DPM method while procuring this vehicle through relaxing the financial ceiling of the Section 76 (2) of the Public Procurement Rules 2008.
