The government will provide jobs for the flood affected people under the rural employment project after receding the flood water, said Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossen Chowdhury Maya.
“After receding the flood water, the government will provide all out assistance to the farmers and the distressed people so that they can revive,” said the minister on Thursday while addressing a press briefing at the ministry conference room in the city.
Maya said the government would take initiatives for repairing and construction of damaged houses, educational institutes, roads and embankments.
The minister said “It is the prime responsibility of the government to stand beside the livestock and poultry farmers and distribute seeds and fertilizer among the flood affected peasants.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Maya said, is continuously monitoring the flood situation and the relief distribution.
In the haor areas, the government is providing rice to some 3.80 lakh flood affected families under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme and the programme would continue till April 2018, the minister said.
Criticizing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her trip abroad, the minister said the BNP leader is travelling abroad instead of standing beside the flood affected people.
Disaster Management and Relief Secretary M Shah Kamal, Director General of the Department of Disaster Management M Reaz Ahmed, among others, were present during the press briefing.
