The government will provide geospatial data of different organizations through the data sharing platform GeoDASH (www.geodash.gov.bd) to avoid duplication in preparing development plan.
According to BCC, the GeoDASH platform, which has been developed under a $173 million Bangladesh Urban Earthquake Resilience Project and handed over to Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), will also exchange up-to-date information and data easily among government, autonomous and non-government institutions to help ensure desired development through proper planning.
The GeoDASH is a web-based data sharing platform that empowers government, academia, private enterprise and public to securely host, manage, share, visualize and analyze geospatial data, said Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Parthapratim Deb.
He said this data sharing platform will preserve all geographical data as well as exchange information and data easily among government, autonomous and non-government institutions.
Director of National Data Center Tarique M Barkatullah said different organizations including Department of Disaster Management, Forest Department, Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFRC), Rural Electrification Board of Bangladesh (REB), Local Government and Engineering Division (LGED), Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (DWASA), Dhaka North City
Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation have already started hosting their map, data and information in the GeoDASH.
The availability of Geospatial data from a single platform will help various organizations to stop duplication and overlapping while making development plan, he said.
Meanwhile, the government has taken initiative to enrich the GeoDASH platform and upgrade it as per international standard.
It (the government) selected a representative from BCC to attend GeoNode Summit 2018 held at Turino of Italy from March 26 to March 28 to present the GeoDASH platform. Representatives of over 22 countries participated in the summit 2018.
