BNP Secretarty General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday warned that the government has to pay ultimate price as they withdrew late President Ziaur Rahman’s Swadhinata Padak from National Museum.
“The government has withdrawn Ziaur Rahman’s Swadhinata Padak (Independence Medal) from National Museum. Now they are trying to evict Zia’s grave. The government has to pay ultimate price for these heinous activities,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader said this while addressing a protest meeting in the Jatiya Press Club, organised by the Dhaka City unit of BNP to protest Zia’s medal withdrawal from the museum.
BNP standing committee member and city unit convener Mirza Abbas presided over the meeting, while party standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and some central leaders also addressed it.
Mirza Fakhrul said, the government is trying to depict Ziaur Rahman as a villain by presenting history in wrong ways to the new generation. Because, he said, Awami League fears that
Zia has limitless popularity among the people of the country. It also knows that Zia’s place is in the hearts of the 16 crore people of Bangladesh.
“The government has not snatched Zia’s medal but they snatched medals of the whole nation,” he said, labelling the move as an act of foolishness.
Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul also attended another programme in the day at Ziaur Rahman’s graveyard in the city. Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal organised the programme to mark the organisation’s founding anniversary.
A number of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal leaders and activists took part in the programme.
After placing wreaths at the party founder Zia’s grave Mirza Fakhrul said that the government is trying to make the late president Zia invalid to the people by withdrawing his medal. But they will be failed to achieve their goal.
BNP central leader Bilkis Jahan Shirin, Mohila Dal President Nure Ara Safa and General Secretary Shirin Sultana were present in the programme, among others.
