The government has planned to launch the first ever ICT Career Camp at different public and private universities and colleges of across the country with an aim to motivate students to build their career in IT, sources said.
They said the grand opening of the ICT Career Camp to be organized by the World Bank financed Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under ICT Division, which is scheduled to be held on April 23 at the Krishibid Institution.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak is expected to inaugurate the function, which will be participated by students of different universities and colleges, IT industry and trade body leaders, they said.
Similar camps will be held in the selected campuses of universities and colleges of 64 districts within a year.
“We are launching the career camp in the educational institutions to show the career path in IT for the students,” said Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
If the students find that there is a bright prospect in IT they will come forward to develop career in it and play their due role in building a knowledge based society. he said.
Palak said the events of daylong ICT Career Camp will highlight future prospects in IT, motivational speech of iconic personalities as well as it hold question-answer session and quiz competition.
“We will encourage the students for developing their career in IT as the government is setting up 12 Hi-Tech and Software Technology Parks across the country to flourish IT industries and create employment generation in the ICT sector,” the ICT state minister said.
He said the Jessore Software Technology Park is about to complete and the construction of the Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park, which will alone create employment opportunity for 70,000 people, is progressing fast.
“We are putting emphasize on creating skilled human resources for the ICT sector as the government has fixed the target of ICT export up to $5 billion by 2021,” Palak said adding the government has also been creating an ICT enabling environment so that the number of IT professionals increased to 2 million during the same period.
The ICT Division has launched training through its various projects and programmes to develop a pool of skilled human resources for the country’s ICT sector, the state minister said.
He said the Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project, which has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 22 Universities and Colleges to provide world-class IT training, will create 45,000 skilled human resources through providing world-class IT training.
Some 55,000 freelancers are being created under the Learning and Earning Development Project to increase earnings from outsourcing jobs, he added.
