City Desk :
The government is going to introduce a pre-employment assessment portal for the country’s IT-ITES companies in March for hiring candidates to match for employment of their companies. The assessment portal, first of its kind, developed by the LICT project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under ICT Division will help the companies to select and hire candidates faster without compromising quality, reports BSS. “Many IT companies look for competent and good fit candidates, but face problems to select and hire them as per requirements and criteria,” ICT Senior Secretary N M Zeaul Alam said adding the assessment portal to be introduced would help resolve these problems.
The secretary said the government itself has been creating skilled human resources as per local and global demands to leverage growth of ICT sector, he said, adding that these skilled human resources would be assessed using the assessment portal and the IT companies could take this advantage in case of hiring competent people for their organizations. “Skills and general knowledge, on any specific subject, of the candidates would be assessed to fit the job as per requirement of the companies and their culture,” said Executive Director of BCC Parthapratim Deb. He said the assessment portal would help country’s IT companies to reduce time and cost of hiring professionals as well as determine candidates who matches with their hiring criteria and job vacancies. LICT Project Director Md Rezaul Karim said the assessment portal contains a provision to check authenticity of the exam and detail results which would be very much useful to assess right skilled professionals for hiring right people in shortest time.
“Initially, five professional courses, which have been designed and developed in collaboration with IT-ITES industry and academia, are being included for assessment and more courses on frontier technologies will be included soon to assess the readiness of our IT-ITES professionals for 4IR,” said Policy Adviser of LICT Sami Ahmed.
Through this portal, IT professionals will appear for online assessment of their preferred subjects, he said, adding some companies have already signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) to use the assessment portal for selecting and hiring candidates for job. “We are expecting more companies to come within short time,” Sami said.
