The government has taken steps to impart training to 55,000 students on ICT to create skilled manpower in the ICT sector in the next two years so that they can work in any country across the globe.
The government is providing free training to thousands of youth so that they can earn from home using technological tools and eventually go on to become entrepreneurs.
Since 2013, about 34,000 youth have received training in the field of information technology, of which 12,000 are female.
The training programme, which is run in 64 districts, involves both basic and advanced level of learning. Basic training lasts for a week and focuses on fundamental computer literacy.
The observations came at the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the daylong National Collegiate Programming Contest- 2015 in Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) here on Saturday.
Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of RUET organized the contest in association with Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) with a view to building a platform for the young talents to come together for the next generation.
RUET VC Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg and Joint Secretary of ICT Division Abdul Mannan addressed the ceremony as chief and special guests respectively with Prof Dr Nazrul Islam Mondal, Chairman of CSE of RUET, in the chair.
BCC Director Engineer Enamul Kabir, BUET Electrical Faculty Dean Prof Dr Kaykobad and former Dean of RUET Electrical and Electronics Faculty Prof Shahiduzzaman also spoke on the occasion.
The speakers urged the youngsters to develop their career with Information Technology (IT) and contribute to build Digital Bangladesh as charted out in the vision 2021.
They said the government has launched the training programme to provide world-class IT training to the youngsters to create skilled human resources of 21st century for their participation in building Digital Bangladesh.
The government wants to use the talents of younger generation by making them skilled human resources, one of the five pillars of Digital Bangladesh.
“You are talented and you have to make google, facebook. Think big and dream big to develop your career,” Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg said adding, “Without dream no one can succeed in their life”.
