Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that the government has been observing the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak on the country’s trade and businesses.
After assessing the economic impacts, the government will take necessary measures to help businesses badly affected by the unexpected non-trade factor, he said.
“If we take a decision now considering current situation of the business, it could be little in the event of things turning worse. So, we’re closely observing the situation before taking any decision in this regard,” he told reporters after emerging from the inaugural session of a workshop at a city hotel on Sunday.
“The businesses have not seen any significant impacts from coronavirus,” he added.
The minister said there were fears that overseas sales of Bangladeshi products would slow down if the situation in China does not improve over a long time.
“However, things are improving there, which is a good sign,” he added. When asked whether this problem has affected orders for Bangladeshi apparel in the global market, he said no such impacts have yet been seen.
