Road Transport and Bridges Minister, also in charge of the Post, Telecommunications and ICT Ministry in Parliament, Obaidul Quader today said the government undertook various projects to expand the 3G (Third Generation) network up to the upazila level soon.
“The government has already introduced the 3G services in all divisional cities and district towns before the stipulated period,” he said, while replying to a question from treasury bench member Begum Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia in the House.
Quader said currently 1,11,83,000 subscribers were enjoying 3G services in the country till December last year.
Replying to another question from treasury bench member Habibur Rahman Mollah, he said the government has been installing 1,562 NodeB having 3G and 2G technology facilities for increasing 3G-mobile capacity and high speed network for 65 lakh subscribers in all divisional and district towns.
Meanwhile, the government has opened operational service of 1,545 NodeB in seven divisional and 60 district towns, while operation of rest of the NodeB will be launched within the next 1-2 months, the minister added.
Quader said the government is implementing various projects to make the telecommunication sector modern and time befitting.
