Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said that under the seventh five-year plan her government would constitute a special fund for the underdeveloped areas of the country.
She said under the plan priority would be given to infrastructure development, setting up of manufacturing industries, sending workers to foreign countries, capacity building to combat natural calamities and development of communication in those areas with other parts of the country.
The Prime Minister said this in her written reply to a question in the parliament from Didarul Alam, member from Chittagong-4 constituency.
Sheikh Hasina said the government has given attention to remove the obstacles on agricultural production in rural areas. In view of this, steps were taken for development of road communications, power supply and irrigation facilities and giving agricultural subsidies to the farmers of the extremely underdeveloped areas.
Replying to another question from Shamsul Haque Chowdhury of Chittagong-12 constituency, the Prime Minister said around 106.5 million people have got jobs at home and abroad in the last seven years despite volatile situation in the labour marker in Middle East and North African countries.
Sheikh Hasina said the rate of revenue income was 17.64 percent during 2009-2015 period which was the highest in comparison to any time in the past.
Terming the poverty reduction and food autarky as the major success of her government,
the Prime Minister said about poverty rate came to 23.8 percent in 2015 from 40 percent in 2005.
In 2014-2015, country’s rice production was 3.49 crore metric tonnes which was 2.65 crore tonnes in 2005-2006 fiscal year , she said.
