The government has approved in principle to purchase 300 double-decker and 100 articulated buses to stop the nagging traffic snarl-up in the capital city.
Planning Ministry gave the nod in principle to purchase the buses under the dollar credit line of India.
It was discussed in the fourth meeting of parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridge at Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
Md Akabbar Hossain, MP, chairman of the committee presided over the meeting. Among others, Road Transport and Bridge
Minister Obaidul Quader, AKAM Awal (Saidur Rahman), Rezwan Ahmed Toufiq, Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Nazmul Haque Prodhan, Md Monirul Islam and Lutfun Nesa, were present at the meeting.
Progress of different projects including construction of Payra Bridge (Lebukhali Bridge), upgradation of Dhaka-Chittagong
Highway to four lanes from two lanes, upgradation of traffic management system to ease traffic jam, conducting mobile court to evict makeshift markets from the highways, have also been discussed in the meeting.
Secretaries of Road Transport Division and Bridge Division
and officials concerned were present in the meeting.
