Govt to build digital university, JS told

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid informed the House that the government would build a digital university within its current tenure to expedite achievement of the national target to build knowledge based digital Bangladesh.
In this regard “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh Act 2014” got approval at the Cabinet meeting, he said this on Wednesday while replying to a tabled question of lawmaker Nurjahan Begum.The minister said the digital university will be a specialized one. “The university will offer degrees on different subjects related to modern technology of the present changing world,” he said.
The minister said it is expected that the university would make significant contribution in resolving unemployment problem as curriculum of the university would be designed as per the demand of new job market. The proposed subjects of the university included digital technology, biotechnology, nano technology, digital development, advanced technology, instructional technology, green technology, software engineering, hardware engineering, telecommunication engineering, Robotics, information technology-information technology enabled services, cloud computing, e-commerce and cyber security and management, the minister said.
Replying to another tabled question of lawmaker Mir Mostaq Ahmed Roby, the minister said the government has a plan to build public or private university in every district. Presently, a total of 117 public and private universities are functioning in the country, he added.
