Probable second wave of Covid-19: Govt takes well preparations but Nat’l committee yet to be apprised

In face of probable second attack by the coronavirus, the government assured of taking adequate preparations, but the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 yet to be unformed.
Covid-19 infections are on rise for last two weeks in Bangladesh after comfort for several months.
The government has refused of having second wave attack of the virus and said it has adequate preparations in this regard.
When contacted, Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) told The New Nation, “The rise may be labelled as second attack as the infection rate is on rise.”
On May 31, the infection rate hiked to 20 per cent. After the date, the country witnessed 20 to 22 per cent infection rate till August 20. Then the rate decreased to 10 to 12 percent and remaining almost identical till the last week, he said.
But the infections rate reached 13.83percent tested on November 17, according to the DGHS.
On last Friday, the infection rate hiked more and reached 14.58 per cent and the latest figures showed an infection rate of 13.88 per cent  
yesterday as per the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data.
When contacted, Professor Dr. Muzaherul Huq, former Advisor of World Health Organisation (WHO) told The New Nation, “There the infection rate has increased no doubt. In this circumstances, we have suggested the government to strengthen health services facilities in every hospital all over the country.”
The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 suggested the government to give highest priority on taking preparations for the probable second wave attack of the disease.
“We have recommended the government to increase number of beds in dedicated hospitals, ensure centrally supplied oxygen system in every hospital and adequate number of ventilators, high flow nasal cannullas in every health service centers including upazila and district level hospitals to curb the fatalities on probable second wave,” Professor Dr Mohammad Shahidullah, Chairman National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 told The New Nation.
He said that the committee has also asked the government to increase testing facilities and hike number of sample tests.
“So far I learned all of our hospitals and clinics have sufficient doctors, nurses and well-equipped with adequate ventilators and oxygen supplies with centrally systems,” he said.
The chairman of the national committee said that the government assured us that they have taken every necessary action to face the danger, but we have not been informed enough about their preparations.
Professor Meerjady Sabrina Flora, the Additional Director of DGHS said our doctors and nurses are now well learned as to how to treat the fatal disease which was absence in the first wave.
She said also that the government also decided to increase the number of sample test laboratories with 118.
On the other hand, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said that the government is well prepared to face the probable second wave of the disease.
He said three hospitals are to be retaken as those have covid dedicated facilities which were dropped from the list in last September. The hospitals are Dhaka Mohanagar Hospital, Lalkuthi Hospital and Bashundhara Covid-19 Hospital.
These hospitals were dropped from the list due to staying less patients for long.
As per the DGHS data there are about 15,448 beds in covid dedicated hospitals across the country.
