The government has taken various measures to resolve the issue of Bangladeshi workers detained in Kuala Lumpur.
“Our diplomatic mission is closely working with Malaysian government and authorities concerned to resolve the workers’ problems that cropped up recently,” Additional Secretary of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry
Zabed Ahmad told BSS here yesterday.
He said officials of Bangladesh mission there are monitoring the steps taken by other countries regarding workers problems.
“Our honourable minister is now in Malaysia maintaining regular contact with our mission officers to this end,” Ahmad informed.
Joint secretary of the ministry Narayan Chandra Burma said the Malaysian police arrested workers who went there by boat and other illegal channels despite embargo.
He said Malaysian law enforcement agencies detained around 1,035 undocumented overseas workers during a recent drive against unauthorized foreign workers, adding, “Around 515 undocumented workers of Bangladesh have been arrested by Malaysian law enforcement agencies.”
