Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said the government has taken up ‘National 3R Strategy’ to reduce industrial waste, recycle and reuse it for increasing industrial productivity.
He said this while speaking at the roundtable discussion “The 6th Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific” held at the Maldives capital Male on Tuesday.
Amu, who chaired the discussion, said once it was considered that industrial waste had no value but it has now become valuable because of the expansion of modern technology. Modern effluent treatment plant has created scope to recycle and reuse of industrial waste, he added.
Education minister of the Maldives Dr Aishath Shiham, minister of the President’s Office of the Maldives Mohamed Hussain Shareef, economic development affairs minister Mohamed Saeed and foreign minister Ms Dhunya Maumoon also spoke at the programme.
Representatives from about 31 countries including China, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Bhutan, Korea, Nepal, Myanmar and Malaysia highlighted the plans and measures taken by their respective countries for industrial waste management.
