Govt. takes massive plans for boosting tourism in Ctg, Cox’s Bazar: Menon

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon Thursday said that the government has taken massive plans to turn Chittagong into a tourism city as well as a commercial capital.
He said the present government has already undertaken a number of plans for Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong Hill Tracts for flourishing tourism prospects of these areas.
” Besides, Cox’s Bazar would be connected with Chittagong through four lane road and railway communication”, the minister added.
Menon said this while inaugurating a ‘3-day international Tourism Fair’ arranged by tourism based fortnightly The Bangladesh Monitor, at Hotel Peninsula this noon.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest, the minister said an exclusive tourist zone would be developed in the Subrang area under Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district covering an area of 4100 acres.
He said the ministry has already floated tender for Turning Cox’s Bazar airport into an international standard airport and work order in this regard is expected to be issued within next one month. Terming Chittagong a beautiful city, the minister said tourism infrastructures would be set up on the south bank of the Karnaphuli river and a new sea beach would also be developed near the existing Patenga sea beach.
Addressing the function, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP said a four-lane road would be constructed on Patenga embankment at a cost of TK 1700 crore and a modern city would be developed near the beach area.
President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mahbubul Alam and The Bangladesh Monitor editor Quazi Wahidul Alam, among others, spoke on the occasion.
