The government has taken up a special 40-day employment generation programme for the hardcore and the seasonal unemployed people of the district for two months of the current year.
District Relief and Rehabilitation office sources said a total of Taka 22 crore, 21 lakh, and 73,330 have been sanctioned for the 24,810 workers to implement different development projects in rural areas of all the seven upazilas in the district.
The aim of the programme is to assist the poor particularly the day and farm laborers of the district in overcoming their poverty and job crisis like situation during the lean period until starting the harvest of T-Aman paddy fully.
The project works include construction and re-construction of Kutcha roads, earth filling in religious and social organizations including academic institutions, excavation and re-excavation of derelict ponds and canals and removing of water hyacinth from the water bodies, office sources said.
Upazila wise breakup of the workers are: 2,192 in Fulchhari upazila, 4,831 in Sundarganj upazila, 3,227 in Shaghata upazila, 4,935 in Gobindaganj upazila, 3,345 in Sadullapur upazila, 3,777 in Sadar upazila and 2,503 in Palashbari upazila of the district.
Each of the beneficiary workers would get TK 200 per working day as wage from the programme, said district relief and rehabilitation officer M. Habibur Rahman.
