State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu has said the government is sincere about welfare of the agro-workers and has taken all effective steps for ensuring their rights.
“Presently, the agro-workers are in better situation than the farmers,” he said when speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion at Jatiya Pres Club here Sunday.
The state minister said the government is committed to take all initiatives for the welfare of the country’s farmers and agro-workers as per the labour law.
He urged all to exstend cooperation for proper implementation of the government initiatives taken for further development of farmers and agro-workers.
Oshie Foundation and Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) jointly organized the roundtable with BLF president Abdus Slalam Khan in the chair. Mohammad Shahidullah presented the keynote paper and Oshie Foundation President Rezwana Saki moderated the discussion.
Labour and Employment Secretary Mikail Shipar, Jatiya Sramik League President Sukkur Mahmud and Bangladesh Trade Union Centre President Dr Wazedul Islam Khan also spoke on the occasion.
In his keynote paper, Shahidullah mentioned presently 47.56 percent of the country’s total labour force has been involved in the agriculture sector.
