State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Alhaj Mashiur Rahman Ranga, MP, has said the present government has taken agro-based programmes for development of the char people.
He called upon the economically backward char people for availing the government assistance and grants under the programmes and properly utilise those to change fortune through cultivating various crops, including vegetables, on the fallow char lands.
The State Minister said this while distributing about 4,000 blankets among the cold-stricken people of two unions at Gangachara upazila parishad premises in Gangachara upazila town on Sunday afternoon as the chief guest.
With Gangachara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tauhidul Islam in the chair, Mrs. Rakiba Nasrine, wife of the State Minster, upazila chairman Asaduzzaman Bablu and President of upazila Jatiya Party (JP) Md Shamsul Alam attended the occasion as special guests.
On the occasion, Mrs. Rakiba Nasrine donated a van-cart from her own fund to the people living in the remote and hardly reachable char areas on the Teesta riverbeds under Gangachara upazila for carrying dead-body.
The State Minister asked the char people for making best use of vast tracts of the fallow and barren char lands through cultivating various crops to increase overall agricultural production to ensure food security under adverse climatic conditions.
“The present pro-liberation government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in the development of all people,” he said suggesting the char people to work and utilise the available resources and char lands for changing fortune through agro-activities.
He said the present government has been working relentlessly for development of the country in building middle income nation by 2021 and also providing winter clothes among the cold-hit people of Gangachara upazila to mitigate their sufferings.
The State Minister also called upon the affluent people in the society to assist the cold-hit poor and distressed people in mitigating their sufferings through distributing warms clothes among them.
