The government on Wednesday summoned Myanmar ambassador Lwin Oo and protested against the firing by the Border Guard Police of the country into the Bangladesh territory.
He was summoned in the foreign ministry where the Bangladesh side demanded actions against the guilty of the Myanmar force involved in the incident.
Myanmar’s Border Guard Police opened fire into the Bangladesh territory on November 4. Two teen boys, a Bangladesh national and a Rohingya person of Myanmar living in Cox’s Bazar camp, were injured in firing.
On October 6, the foreign Ministry summoned Myanmar Ambassador Lwin Oo to protest what officials call Naypyidaw’s ‘misrepresentation’ of Bangladesh on its map.
Myanmar updated its map on the official website of the Department of Population, dop.gov.mm, and another website, themimu.info, in a way that shows that the Saint Martin’s Island is part of its territory.
They used similar colour for both Myanmar and the Saint Martin’s Island. Bangladesh has been shown by using black colour. Clicking the Saint Martin’s Island, one can get the detailed information about the population of that area which is also similar to Myanmar. Nothing can be seen on the Bangladesh map.
“When we asked, the ambassador said it ‘may be a mistake,” the foreign Ministry officials said.
