Information Minister and Awami League’s publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said, government is cordial and sincere about media freedom. The government believes that democracy and development would not sustain without free and fair media.
He said, the government of Bangladesh has started to work for freedom of all platforms of media in the country.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said it at an event marking World Press Freedom Day, titled “State of Mass Media:
Bangladesh Perspective,” at Jatiya Press Club in the Capital on Thursday.
The minister said, “The present government’s motto is to build a multi-dimensional society; while freedom of the media is a must for it.”
Dr Hasan Mahmud claiming that the Bangladeshi media industry is enjoying full freedom said that journalists must be responsible to protect their freedom.
“The Digital Security Act has been enacted for all which includes all journalists as well so that victims can get justice.”
However, the minister further claimed that the government would be very careful so that no-one can abuse and misuse these laws to harass journalists.
