UNB, Dhaka :
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is siding with godfathers and thieves instead of people.
“The Prime Minister in Parliament has backed the Osman family. She’s also defended those involved in killing, forced disappearance and theft. Because she wants to cling to power with their support, not with that of people,” he said.
Fakhrul came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club organised by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), marking the 33rd death anniversary of BNP founder and ex-president Ziaur Rahman.
Criticising the Prime Minister for praising the Narayanganj Osman family, the BNP spokesman said the people of Narayanganj know Shamim Osman as a godfather and killer. “It’s a pity that
the Prime Minister defended Shamim Osman. She also defended those who stole gold from the crest for foreign friends.”
He also deplored that Sheikh Hasina called former Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain a patriot after the World Bank had charged him with corruption in Padma Bridge project.
Accusing the government of indulging in brutal killings and forced disappearances, Fakhrul alleged that at least 310 opposition leaders and activists were killed while 32 others made disappeared in the last four moths.
He said the ruling party does not believe in democracy as the party only uses it to come to power. “Awami League has a good quality to make the false truth and the truth false.”
