The Awami League government should immediately step down in order to hold a free, fair and impartial election, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He said it at a human chain programme, organised by the Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal, in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday.
“The government has been trying to regain popularity with drive against casino and gambling, says the BNP Secretary General.
“Corruption spreads in all fronts, because police and other law enforcement agencies work only according to the instructions of the government, who only wants to serve its own agendas,” the BNP leader said.
Talking to reporters after another meeting of BNP Standing Committee he further said, “The voice of the government has now been lowered as its connection to corruption had been exposed.
Fakhrul said, “We would like to request the Government to quit power for failure to govern the country properly.”
He said, gambling has badly spread all over the country during the rule of the current government as it has lost control on the state machinery. “They’re failing to control those who helped them grab power once. Their party men have gone out of their control.”
Fakhrul said, “All the state organs are collapsing, as the government has no accountability and legitimacy.”
Mirza Fakhrul to other question said, “Relatives of their party Chairperson
Khaleda Zia met her on Friday, and found her in a deplorable state.”
“Khaleda has lost weight as she herself unable to eat anything due to her fragile health condition,” he added.
He demanded the government to free Khaleda Zia from jail so that she can receive proper treatment at a hospital of her choice.
Fakhrul alleged that the government is slowly pushing the BNP chief towards death by depriving her of right to bail. “We want her to be freed immediately through the legal process.”
BNP Standing Committee Members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan were present at the meeting.
