The BNP on Tuesday said that the government is seeking Indian support to conduct another one-sided parliamentary elections.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is seeking guarantee from India to unilaterally hold the next general elections in return to her government’s services to the neighbouring country,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city.
He said the Prime Minister had told a news conference, after returning to Dhaka from India tour, “What we have given to India, they would remember it forever, and we have brought them back peace. We do not want any return.”
Rizvi said the Indian Anandabazar newspaper published a report that Bangladesh Prime Minister wanted ‘return’ from Modi.
The BNP leader said, “The Indian newspaper in the report stated that Sheikh Hasina informed to her Indian counterpart that her government removed extremists from north-east border of the country, provided transit and always extended support to Delhi in international forum and this time wants cooperation of India for the election of Bangladesh.”
Rizvi also said, there is no reason to the present ‘anti-people government to pass any pro-people budget. But we will wait until submission of the budget to say anything regarding this.
BNP Vice-Chairmen Shawkat Mahmud, Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Sopu, Assistant Office Secretary Belal Ahmed, President of Olama Dal Hafez Abdul Malek and BNP leader Aminul Islam, among others, were present.
