The BNP accused the government of pushing the nation towards a long term crisis by snatching voting rights of the people by resorting to violence and widespread irregularities, including stuffing ballot overnight, driving out its polling agents and capturing polling stations across the country using police administration.
“The government has destroyed the election with widespread violence by the ruling party men using police and other law enforcers in whole country. It (government) has pushed the nation towards a long term crisis by this heinous act,” said |BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a press briefing at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office at the evening.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “This election has become a mockery, this is the death of democracy.”
He accused the police of involving with vote rigging directly, driving out the party’s polling agents from polling stations.
“The police interfered into voting process directly after 11 am on the election day. They drove out all of our agents from polling stations across the country,” said BNP Secretary General.
He said, voters have peacefully franchised their voting rights since morning to 11 am in different polling centers. But after 11am, the police started to interfere and drove out our agents and voters from every centers.
He said, they (police) created scope for the ruling party men to rig votes in every polling center around the country.
“The goons of ruling Awami League created state of panic by spreading violence with the associations of police administration,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said, the natural voting atmosphere did not prevail. The people lost their trust in the administration as they acted unethically.
Meanwhile, BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also accused the ruling party and police administration of spreading violence and widespread irregularities including whole night ballot stuffing on Saturday night in every constituency of the country.
“We have got a sign of a violence and one-sided election. They did everything to bring the election result in their favour through indulging in violence and holding a lopsided election,” Rizvi said in press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office in the capital.
The BNP leader put ahead the depictions of irregularities and violent activities at polling centers.
He said that their party candidate for Dhaka-4 Salahuddin Ahmed was hacked by ruling party activists when he went to cast his vote at Shampur Model High School voting centre. Rizvi said the ruling party activists, police, RAB and BGB members are also attacking to the BNP supporters and drove out its agents from almost every polling station across the country.
The BNP leader said, “This is the sign of peaceful election under Sheikh Hasina- led government.”
On the other hand, BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal told journalists that police and ruling party men drove out Sheaf of Paddy agents from at least 221constituencies till the noon.
“Widespread violence and vote rigging destroyed the election. The government should not do this. They should publish a gazette that they have 299 seats,” Alal said it on the Election Commission premises after submitting allegations of irregularities to the EC.
