Govt provides Tk 23.8 lakh assistance to poor Qawmi students

The government has provided Taka 23.8 lakh assistance to 169 Qawmi Madrasahs in Feni and Natore districts to distribute the money among the poor and orphan madrasha students to help them cope with coronavirus plight.
A total of Taka 14.7 lakh was distributed among the poor and orphan students of 88 Qawmi madrasahs in Feni.
The amount was allocated from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund for the poor and orphan madrasha students, Deputy Commissioner of Feni Md Wahiduzzaman told BSS.
He said no government came up with such assistance for the Qwami students in the past, while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken this kind of initiative for the first time.
Chief Mufti of Feni’s Daganbhuiyan Ashraful Uloom Islamia Madrasa Yusuf Qasimi said: “We are really happy after getting the prime minister’s assistance amid coronavirus crisis. We hope that the premier would continue such support for the Qawmi Madrasahs in the future.”
The government gave an assistance of Taka 9.1 lakh to 81 madrasahs in Natore district.
Deputy Commissioner of Natore Md Shahreaz has already began distribution of cheques of the assistance among the authorities of the Qwami madrasahs.
While distributing cheques among the madrasahs of Natore sadar upazila, Shahreaz said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for the welfare of the country and its people.
“Once the poor and orphan madrasha students receive the assistance of the premier, they would be very happy,” he said.
General secretary of Tanjimul Madarisul Qwamia Bangladesh’s Natore Committee Moulana Ruhul Amin expressed gratitude to the prime minister for her assistance to the Qwami madrasahs.
No government, except the Sheikh Hasina’s government, gave such assistance to the Qwami madrashas or its students in the past, he said.
Amin said the prime minister also recognised the certificate of Dawra-e-Hadith (Taqmil) from Qawmi madrasahs as equivalent to certificate of master’s degree (Islamic Studies and Arabic).
