The government will distribute the textbooks among the students of Class I to Class X of 2019 academic session in October instead of January next year, Education Ministry sources said.
The printing of the textbooks will start in June this year to avoid distribution disorder.
The Education Ministry sources said the next national election may be held in December. The political situation of the country may be tense at that time. That is why, the government plans to complete the textbooks printing by September next.
The government does not want to tarnish its achievement delaying distribution of textbooks.
A total of 37 crore textbooks can be printed to meet the demand for next year.
Over 35 crore textbooks have been distributed among the students of current academic year.
The Education Ministry, and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education held several meetings with the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) to finish all the printing activities within the scheduled time.
Member of NCTB Dr Mia Enamul Hoque Siddiqui said, “The NCTB will invite tender
for printing the textbooks this month. The distribution process of the work will finish by April.”
“It is the election year. The ministry has asked the NCTB to complete printing by October. So that the textbooks can be distributed before the election,” he said.
NCTB sources said the Education Ministry on January 23 approved the ATPP for printing books for secondary-level students while the Primary and Mass Education Ministry has approved the ATPP on February 11 to print primary- level textbooks.
The tender for primary-level books will be invited on March 5 and an agreement will be signed on June 6 with the contractors.
As per the deal, the contractors will have to deliver half of the textbooks by August 9 and must complete supply 100 percent of the books by September 14.
Tender will be invited for printing books for secondary level (Bangla and English versions) and art boards on February 28. A deal will be signed with the contractors on July 1, and as per the deal, they will have to supply all books by September 29.
The authorities will invite a tender for printing secondary-level textbooks. including paper (SSC Vocational, Dakhil and Alim Vocational) on March 27 and a deal will be signed with contractors on July 11. As per the deal, the contractors have to deliver books by October 17.
A tender (without paper) will be called on March 2 (SSC Vocational, Dakhil and Alim Vocational) and an agreement will be signed with contractors on June 15. Books will have to be delivered by September 21 as per the deal. Tender for printing Braille, pre-primary and secondary textbooks will be invited on April 20. A deal will be signed with contractors on August 8 for delivery by November 28.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education will not receive the fund from World Bank to print the primary books.
The Ministry officials said that the World Bank dominated the ministry’s activities giving only 10 percent fund of the primary books.
Additional Secretary (Development) of the Primary and Mass Education Ministry Md Gias Uddin Ahmed told The New Nation that The Ministry could not work independently due to the disturbance of the World Bank. “This year, the Ministry will print the primary books by its own fund. As a result, we will not face any problem in printing the books in time,” he said.
