Govt plans $ 60 billion export by 2021

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed Tuesday said, the government has been working to diversify its export products and expand export market to increase the export earnings to US$60 billion in 2021.
“Bangladesh is currently earning $32 billion by exporting 729 products in 196 countries annually and we have been working to increase the earnings to $60 billion in 2021, the year Bangladesh will celebrate its golden jubilee of independence,”
Tofail Ahmed said it while speaking at a panel discussion on regional economic partnership in Bangkok, according to information received in the city.
The commerce minister is now in Thailand’s capital Bangkok for joining the 12th conference of the Asia-Pacific Form of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
He said if the trade barriers are removed, Bangladesh will be able to expand its market very quickly.Among the LDCs, Bangladesh has made a remarkable progress in social and economic sectors. Internationally reputed research organisations have highly appreciated the Bangladesh progress and they forecast that the country would be able to accelerate this progress in the days to come, he added.
The Commerce Minister said, Bangladesh has already emerged as a lower middle income country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who came to power with a promise to build a Digital Bangladesh and to achieve a middle income country status by 2021.
