Terming ‘digital heist’ the stealing of Tk 800 crore from for the central bank’s reserve account with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, BNP on Wednesday alleged that the government is trying to protect those involved in it.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also said the filing of a case against
unidentified people over the incident is mysterious. “Such a digital heist under the rule of a digital government has stunned people across the globe. It’s clear to the nation that the government high-ups are involved in it,” he said.
He further said, “It’s very mysterious that a case was filed against anonymous people, 40 days after the incident. If that is the case, it can be said the government is out to protect the real offenders?” The BNP leaders also said the government will not be able to hide the masterminds of the sensational heist through the resignation of the Bangladesh Bank Governor and removal of two deputy governors.
