BNP on Sunday alleged that the government is arresting its leaders and activists to foil its November-7 programmes by spreading panic. “Police are arresting our leaders and activists at different parts of the country, including Dhaka to thwart our November-7 programmes. They’re trying to foil our programmes by spreading panic among our leaders and activists,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he also said police obstructed a
pro-BNP cultural organisation from setting up a tent beside Ziaur Rahman’s grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the morning to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day. “Despite having permission, police destroyed all arrangements and derived away our activists from there.”
The BNP leader said police arrested city’s Kadamtali thana unit leaders Jumman Chairman, Mahbub, Masum, Hasnat, Mirajnagar thana unit leader Aulad Hossain, Narsingdi JCD leader Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan, Swechchhasebak Dal leader Sumon Chowdhury, Khilgaon leader Jamal and Jatrabari leader Shamim on Sunday. He demanded the government immediately release them. On October 20, BNP announced a 10-day programme, including a rally in the city to mark November 7 as the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
As part of the programmes, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia along with party leaders and activists will place wreaths at Zia’s grave on Monday morning. BNP earlier sought permission for holding their rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 or 8. Having denied permission to hold it at Suhrawardy Udyan.
