UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Wednesday alleged that the government has created the current political crisis annihilating democracy in a bid to re-establish one-party autocratic rule in the country.
“It’s not illogical to think that the government has created the current political crisis aiming to take the country to one-party autocratic rule as they snatched people’s democratic and human rights and established their control over every institution,” he told a discussion.
Accusing Awami League of repeatedly annihilating democracy, he said the party always talks about democracy, but takes position against it and people. “It’s an ominous sign in which direction the government is pushing the country.”
The BNP leader urged people to get united to save the country from the grasp of the current regime and restore democracy.
Centre for National Studies arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club marking the publication ceremony of a book titled ‘Political Crisis in Bangladesh’.
Nazrul said, BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had introduced multiparty democracy and restore freedom of press and judiciary putting an end to one-party Baksal rule established by Awami League in 1975.
The BNP leader alleged that the government is now trying to hush up truth and establish lies by regulating the media. “They (govt) are trying to make people forgot the January-5 polls, their misdeeds, misrule and corruption.”
