UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday alleged that the government has only developed the ruling party’s position and its leaders and activists, not the country over its nine-year rule.
“Have you ever seen such processions of development? It’s exposed that the government position has become so feeble that it has now to take out processions of development to cling to power. But, the country’s people are not so fool that they’ll believe that the country has become developing one seeing the processions,” he said.
Speaking at a discussion, he also said, “There’s been no development of the country. It’s only their personal (AL leaders and followers) development and their party.” Zia Parishad, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the programme demanding BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail. Amir Khasru, a BNP standing committee member, said the government is talking about development of the country, but its people are struggling to lead a minimum decent life due to the soaring prices of essentials and utility services. “Most roads have turned unfit for movement across the country though it’s claimed that the country has graduated to a developing one.” He alleged that thousands of crores of taka are being looted from different banks and the share market.
“Lakhs of crores of taka are being siphoned off, but no one is facing trial. Are these the signs of development?” Khasru said the government has put their party chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail only to hold a lopsided election. “Awami League wants to grab power again by keeping voters out of election as it has no confidence in people. He called upon the people of all strata to get united for ‘restoring’ democracy and their rights and save the country from the grasp of Awami League.
