The government may pursue hard-line against those of the teachers who are engaged in coaching business across the country. No mercy will be shown, the Education Ministry sources said.
The ministry officials said, coaching business hampers regular educational activities seriously, as the teachers concentrate more on the coaching instead of taking classes in schools.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid asked the officials of the ministry to collect information and prepare a ‘black list’ of the teachers who run coaching centers or involved with the coaching business.
As per the direction of the minister, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) verbally asked the top officials to accumulate information in this regard. Thursday was the last day of the deadline. But Barisal Divisional Office and Rajshahi Office sent two papers in this regard, which are not appropriate for making a list.
Director General of DSHE Professor Dr S M Wahiduzzaman on Thursday called directors of different wings of the directorate and asked to prepare the list as early as possible.
Professor Wahiduzzaman told The New Nation on Thursday evening that they were working in full swing to make the list.
An official of the ministry wishing anonymity told this correspondent that the ministry will serve show-cause notice on the involved teachers at first. The ministry will take action against the teachers after receiving explanations from them.
DSHE Director (Secondary) Professor Elias Hossain said the list would be prepared soon as per the direction of the ministry.
Since taking the charge, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid criticised the teachers who are busy with coaching business instead of teaching in classes.
He also strongly criticised a section of people for their immoral activities in educational institutions.
“Some teachers engage in teaching outside classes in exchange of money and attract students to this unethical path. We want to stop this,” he said.
The minister in different programmes also urged guardians to get united for stopping coaching business.
“If guardians get united against the handful of dishonest teachers who indulge in coaching business, it will be possible to ease the sufferings of students by ensuring the accountability of teachers in classrooms,” he said.
Even, the Education Minister warned the teachers of stern action. He said, “Cheating with children will not be tolerated. Nobody will be allowed to do business in name of serving education. Those who are involved in the business will be identified and then will be suspended.”
