UNB, Dhaka :
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday alleged that the government has been on a ‘mission’ to kill ‘diehard’ BNP leaders and activists to perpetuate its power.
In a statement, she said, “Hanging onto power by killing the leaders and activists of BNP and other opposition parties and creating a reign of terror is Awami League’s political culture. The current government is working with a mission to selectively kill the dedicated BNP leaders and activists.”
The BNP chief issued the statement condemning and protesting the murder of Khulna district unit BNP organising secretary Alauddin Mithu.
Unknown assailants shot and killed Mithu and his bodyguard Nowsher Gazi at his office in Phultala area on Thursday night.
“Alauddin Mithu has been brutally subjected to the government’s mission to kill BNP men. Mithu’s murder is another manifestation of the government’s continued deadly atrocities,” Khaleda observed.
Describing Mithu’s killing as cowardice act, she said the government is turning independent country Bangladesh into a ‘graveyard’ by killing BNP leaders and activists.
Khaleda said Awami League is crossing all the limits by annihilating democracy and killing BNP leaders and activists. “The motive behind the killing of opposition leaders and activists is to frighten people so that no one dare raise their voice against the government.”
The BNP chief warned the government that it will not be able cling to power by resorting to bloodletting and intimidating people. “People won’t sit idly anymore. Instead, they’ll get united to face the regime and resist its continued bloodletting programmes.”
She also prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
