UNB, Dhaka :
State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on Saturday said the government is not doing anything beyond law about the issue of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s arrest.
“We’re not exercising anything beyond law, we’re rather working in accordance with the law and will continue to do so,” he told a ‘Meet-the-Press’ programme, organised by Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) at its auditorium.
Asked whether the government faces any international pressure to refrain from arresting the BNP chief, the junior minister replied in the negative.
About the investigation progress in the Avijit Roy murder, Asad said, “We’re trying to track down the remaining killer-suspects involved in the shocking murder. The mystery behind the killing will be unearthed.”
Refuting the statement made by the foreign human rights bodies expressing concern over the arrest of opposition political leaders, the state minister said, “The allegations are not true.”
He said, the law enforcers have arrested only those involved in bomb and arson attacks on people during non-stop transport blockade and hartal hours.
Asad, however, hoped that the petrol bomb and arson attacks on people will be subsided soon as the people have become annoyed with and hostile towards the terror campaign and violence across the country.
DRU president Sakhawat Hossain Badsha and general secretary Elias Hossain were, among others, present at the programme.
