Govt mulls over enacting digital security act, JS told

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the government is going to enact a digital security act to prevent cyber crimes and track down cyber criminals.
“Under the law, the government for the first time in the country would set up a world standard forensic lab to prevent cyber crime, track down cyber criminals and test various devices,” he said this on Monday while replying to a supplementary question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Nurul Islam Milon in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The state minister said the government would also introduce cyber security agency along with a cyber security council, adding, “We have formed a national cyber incident response team, which would test penetration and vulnerability along with critical infrastructure and all servers belonged to public and private servers and their data preserved on their websites.”
“We have identified 21 critical infrastructure across the country through nine meetings and 4 billion of internet users are at cyber risk. A cyber security guideline was also prepared,” he informed the House.
Replying to another supplementary question from treasury bench member Anwarul Abedin Khan, the state minister said the government would provide training to 55,000 people in the first phase under earning and learning project across the country.
He said the government would also set up 15,000 Sheikh Russell Digital Computer Lab at primary schools in all parliamentary constituencies, adding, “The government has undertaken initiatives to provide internet connection to two lakh schools, colleges, madrasas, community clinics, post offices and vocational educational institutions by optical fiber or prospective technology across the country.”
“We have taken initiates for providing connectivity to offices by optical fiber or prospective technology and setting up standard local area network (LAN),” Palak said.
He said the government has also a plan to provide server/tab/laptop/internet equipment to service providers like health workers, deputy assistant agricultural officer in agriculture sector etc.
The state minister said the government has another plant to install 1,000 wifi zones at different park/hatbazar etc places for young generation.
