BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the present government would not be able to save it from the downfall through killing, abduction and torture on the people and the opposition leaders and workers.
In a statement on Thursday, he said that the countrymen are seriously annoyed with the government for its misrule and misdeeds. The people are waiting for a tougher movement against the government.
He alleged that the Awami League government is conducting torture on the people, particularity on the leaders and workers of BNP and its allies, through using the law enforcing agencies and the ruling party cadres.
He said that the Awami League earlier killed democracy in 1975 by introducing the one-party parliamentary system. The government is moving towards the one-party rule again like the past, he added. The BNP leader protested and condemned the attack on Mymensingh Juba Dal leaders Md Shakil and Kabir by the ‘identified terrorists’ of the Juba League and Chhatra League. The ruling party men ‘tortured the Juba Dal leaders after police arrested them’ on Wednesday. Later, Shakil was killed in the hospital. The incident is barbaric, he said.
He demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the ruling party terrorists and cadres.
Mirza also protested and condemned the arrest of Shamim Chowdhury, newly elected upazila chairman of Ghoraghat in Dinajpur. He demanded immediate and unconditional release of BNP-backed chairman.
