Govt may invite Khaleda to Padma Bridge opening: Quader

The government may invite BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, the World Bank Country Director and other political parties to the inaugural ceremony of the Padma Bridge on June 25, Road Transport and Brides Minister Obaidul Quader said on Saturday.
“All the political parties including BNP will get invitations. As a party Chairperson, she (Khaleda Zia) deserves an invitation. If law allows, we will invite her,” Quader said in reply to a query of the journalists.
After hailing from a function on “Graduation of Women Drivers: A Step towards Road Safety” at the BRAC Centre in the capital, Quader said that they would also invite the Country Director of World Bank which did not fund for the Bridge raising fake corruption story.
About the participation of BNP in the general election, General Secretary of ruling Awami League said, “BNP is a big political party. We want their participation in election. They have to take part in election, if they want the change of power.”
“If you think you will remain in the path of killing and terrorism, if you thank you want to assume state power through the lane of conspiracy by threatening Sheikh Hasina, your day dream will turn into a nightmare,” he continued.
Slamming BNP, Quader said, “BNP is threatening to kill Sheikh Hasina at home and abroad. They want to repeat the incident of 15 August. Those who are delivering such statements BNP should control them. Otherwise, the consequences will be dreadful.”
Regarding BNP’s criticism over price hike of essential commodities, AL General Secretary said, BNP has gone crazy and now talking rubbish.
“They have gone crazy because they can’t bear the construction of the Padma Bridge and Metrorail. They have never seen and constructed elevated expressways and bus rapid transit in their lives,” he said.
Among others, World Bank Country Director to Bangladesh Mercy Miyang Tembon, BRTA Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Chairman Md Tazul Islam addressed the certificate distribution ceremony as Special Guests with BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh in the chair.
A total of 11 trainees, including 10 women and one transgender, took part in the 6th batch of training programme for women.
