Staff Reporter :The BNP on Friday alleged that the government is desperate for India’s support to remain in power permanently, sinking people’s interests.”The government does not care for its popularity, but for power only,” said the party’s Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office. He alleged that the plans are on way to make Bangladesh subservient to India.”The government has given India corridor in the name of giving transit facilities with Tk 192 as transit fees to serve Indian interest only and to stay in power,” he said.Rizvi said, though the government is imposing more taxes on its own people, it is allowing India to transport its goods through Bangladesh territories with a nominal fee only.”That is why the Rampal Thermal Power Plant is being set up near the Sundarbans, ignoring the country’s interest, sovereignty as well the environmentalists’ objection,” he added.The BNP leader said the people are not in the festive mood, even when the Eid-ul-Fitr is knocking at he door.
