BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan on Saturday accused the government of killing the militants intentionally in a bid to conceal its connection with the militancy.
“In the name of so-called ‘shootout’ the government is killing the militants. If the militants are arrested and produced before the court, they must disclose the government link with the militancy,” he said while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in the city yesterday.
Desh Netri Forum organised the programme to protest the arrest warrant against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The BNP leader also claimed that the militants always grow fast under the present ruling party Awami League.
“We are urging the government not to kill the suspected militants in the
name of cross-fire,” he said.
Nazrul Islam also accused the government of filing false cases against the party’s Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.
He also protested the government’s move to setup Rampal power plant.
AKM Bashir Uddin, President of the organisation presided over the programme. BNP central leader ABM Mosharraf Hossain, Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah and Shahjahan Miah Samrat, among others, also addressed the protest programme.
