There have been large-scale injuries and deaths due to road accidents, murders and other criminal activities during the recent time across the country, resulting in serious concern among people in all strata of the society.

To begin with political murder, the detectives lastly have arrested the prime accused in the killing of former general secretary of Motijheel Thana Awami League Jahidul Islam Tipu and Badrunnessa Government Mohila College student Samia Afran Preeti with the help of technology and intelligence surveillance. The accused is identified as Masum alias Akash, DB Chief Additional Police Commissioner AKM Akhtar said in a press conference last Sunday. Reportedly, seven bullets were found in Tipu’s body and another hit Preeti. Both were shot dead by masked assailants in the capital’s Shahjanpur area last Thursday, according to media reports.

The murder of dentist Bulbul Ahmed, who used to give free treatment to the poor, was stabbed by three muggers in the capital’s Shewrapara area on Sunday. Following the sensational incident three Belarusians were arrested on suspicion of their involvement in the attack, according to police. We also need to mention, stabbing to death of one Kazak, and another critically injured in the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project in Pabna’s Ishwardi Upazila.

In a sensational case, a 31-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a bus in the capital’s Mirpur area on Tuesday while dropping off her two children at school. The deceased were identified as Sabina Yeasmin, wife of Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Bhasantek area when her two children received minor injuries. Sabina’s elder daughter Humaira Yasmin Ohi is a class IV student of Bangladesh Navy School. As there was an examination at Humaira’s school, Sabina was taking her to school with her younger daughter Rahiya Yasmin Rahi at noon; a bus of “Trust Transport” hit their rickshaw from behind in front of Bhasantek Navy Market. Sabina and her two daughters fell off the rickshaw and suffered injuries. Later, locals rushed them to a local Marks Hospital first and then to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared Sabina dead. The two girls were given first aid.

Most worrying aspect of deaths is that in most cases crimes are committed not by habitual criminals but by politically organised gangs who are sure of political protection. As the election politics has been brought to end thuggish criminals are needed for the advancement of terrorism in politics. It is the right kind of people’s politics what is needed to build an orderly society under the rule of law.

The country is moving fast in the direction of more violence for the reasons of no helplessness of people against politically protected criminals. The police are proving ineffective against present day criminals, they themselves bring part of criminalised politics. The government is not in a position to hear or listen to true facts on the ground.
