Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said though the working class people face hardship in lockdown, the government has to take the tough decision of imposing strict restrictions in people’s interest to protect their lives.
“A dangerous situation may crop up if the infection rate continues to rise unrestrainedly due to our indifference and negligence. So, Sheikh Hasina’s government took the tough decision of imposing strict restrictions to safeguard people’s lives,” he told a press conference at his residence here.
Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, urged all concerned to execute the government imposed restrictions in a proper manner to strengthen the restraining measures against the high infection rate of coronavirus (Covid-19).
He also called upon the people to remain careful and maintain the health guidelines properly.
“You all stay at respective homes making sacrifices to survive. You should not go outside home unnecessarily,” he said.
The minister said if all abided by health guidelines and wore facemasks cent percent, there was no necessity to impose restrictions.
But the infection rate has risen due to some people’s indifference and negligence in maintaining health guidelines, he said.
The AL general secretary urged the party leaders and workers at all levels as well as public representatives to continue extending humanitarian supports to the distressed, working class and jobless people during the restrictions side by side the government’s initiatives.
