State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Begum Meher Afroz Chumki on Monday said the government is implementing six children development centers under the supervision of Bangladesh Shishu Academy for the welfare and rehabilitation of street children.
The state minister said this while replying to a question from independent lawmaker Hajji Mohammad Selim in the Jatiya Sangsad.
Of the six centers, one is absolutory earmarked for girls at Ajimpur in Dhaka city. Among the rest five centers for boys, one each is situated at Gazipur and Karaniganj in Dhaka division and Rajshahi, Khulna and Chittagong divisions.
She said the government has taken various steps to rehabilitate the street and underprivileged children across the country. The centers have provisions for supplying food, accommodation, education, treatment and cultural training, she added.
