At least nine bodies, including six floating in rivers and ponds, were found in Noakhali, Chittagong, Bagerhat and Khulna on Monday.Of the bodies at least five were recovered from a pond of Chatkhil and Meghna river in Hatiya. One of the two was identified as a Juba League man while another a Chhatra Dal activist, reports said.Police recovered the body of Juba League man Al Amin Hossain, 28, of village Bhimpur and that Chhatra Dal activist Mizail Hossain Akash, 21, of village Mawa of the same upazila.Both the bodies bore bullet wounds. The police had recovered the bodies on information that two bodies were floating in separate water bodies. Coast Guard official Hamidur Rahman informed the police about the floating bodies on the north and south of Bogula canal and later the police recovered those.Police official Ashrafuzzaman said that they had heard that several bodies were floating in Meghna, but it was difficult for them to conduct search immediately due to strong current.SP Anisur Rahman of Noakhali said that they suspect that the bodies might have been thrown into the river a week ago as parts of those were eaten by fish and dogs.Meanwhile, the police had recovered bodies of two youths from a septic tank in Sholasahar area under Khulshi police on Monday noon.The victims are Md Furkan Uddin, 20, a welder, and Kamrul Islam, 20, a Chhatra League activist and intermediate second year student of Muslim Education Society (MES) College. Khulshi police said that the assailants had gagged Kamrul with a towel. Forkan’s mother Khurshida Begum said, ‘Forkan told me that he was in the area on Sunday evening but the bodies of two, including that of Forkan, were found in the same area on Monday.”Harunur Rashid, of CMP, said that they would try their best to unveil the mystery behind the killings. In Khulna, the body of Ferdaus Hossain Sheikh, 58, Health Inspector of Phultala upazila health complex, was found in a bamboo cluster at Gilatala under Khanjahan Ali police station on Monday. He had gone missing since Sunday night. He was elder brother of SA Rahman Babul, ex-chairman of Gilatala union parishad and present senior vice-president of Khulna district BNP. Humayun Kabir of Khanjahan Ali police station said Ferdaus had gone out following a phone call and never returned.In Bagerhat, police recovered the floating body of an unidentified young woman, aged about 23, from a shrimp enclosure at Noapara of Fakirhat upazila around noon.Earlier on Sunday, police in Dhaka recovered two bodies from Vashantek and Kadamtali while the body of an 11-year-old schoolboy was found floating in the River Sitalakkhya in Narayanganj on Sunday night, two days after his disappearance. Meanwhile, at least 1100 children were reported to have been killed in the country in three years from 2011, revealed a finding of Manusher Jonno Foundation(MJF). Reports quoting MJF programme coordinator Abdullah Al Mamun said that 335 were killed in 2013, as against 414 children 2012. The number was 334 in 2011,MJF said. Land dispute, family feud and failure to meet ransom money were described some of the reasons behind alarming increase in murder of children. Shishu Adhikhar Forum Director AS Mahmud said a large number of our children are deprived of basic rights. The nature and extent of violence against children , irrespective of age, sex and class, is increasing day by day. Children are exposed to cruel forms of physical and mental violence at home and also in workplaces. Both Mamun and Mahmud expressed their grave concern over the situation while stressing need for the government to take steps to substantially improve the situation. In most cases the mystery behind disappearance or death of people remains unknown as the concerned authorities as, it appears usually cannot take all the cases with equal seriousness. But when the bodies are recovered the police has a ready reply that they would investigate and find out the culprits. But in reality the police in most cases cannot give the required time and engage personnel to investigate the cases. In many cases the seriousness in conducting investigation depends on social or political identities of the victims. The number of cases of forced disappearance or murder is increasing with ever passing day. Cases of disappearances or murder in many cases also remain unreported.
